Derwent View is ideally situated for keen walkers. A glance at the Ordnance Survey Map will reveal numerous public footpaths within a short distance of the cottage.

For active people of all ages, there’s plenty to keep you occupied – and fit!

This is a wonderful area for walkers, with numerous public footpaths in the area. You can walk through woodlands and fields, along riverbanks and coastland or up hill and down dale – the choice is yours.

You will be spoilt for choice for cycle routes as well.

Even adrenaline junkies will find plenty to keep them occupied!

The area around Hackness is a bird spotter’s paradise. Birdwatchers Car Park in Forge Valley is the easiest way to check out some of the local bird life – you should see numerous species of woodland birds.

If you’re feeling lazy, there’s no need to leave the cottage – nearly 40 species of birds have been spotted in or from the garden. Click here for details.

The River Derwent is just across the road from the cottage and there are walks along its banks. You may see kingfishers, dippers and grey wagtails.
